Gérard Collomb

Gérard Collomb when he was interior Minister used the concepts of "migratory submersion" and "migrants benchmarking" (according to him refugees would make a calculation about the advantages of each State in order to choose the best one to immigrate).

Gérard Collomb met with Italian interior Minister Minniti, German Interior Minister de Maizière as well as Avramopoulos in Paris in July 2017. During this meeting they discussed cooperation with transit countries, it is said that Gérard Collomb pushed for strenghtening cooperation with those countries. In that discussion, it is also said that the Italian minister would be pushing for a way to shift the asylum application process from Italy to Libya and bring to Europe those who have a right to protection. Likely to have supported the training of the Libyan coastguards given his position on enhanced cooperation with third countries.
